Buju Banton's Lawyer Claims Government Entrapment

The lawyer for Buju Banton filed papers on Tuesday claiming the U.S. government entrapped the reggae star in a drug deal. The singer pleaded not guilty earlier this month to a charge of conspiring to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota, Florida last month.

Banton, real name Mark Myrie, maintains his innocence and is currently being held in federal custody in Tampa, Florida. And his lawyer, David Markus, claims in official documents that the government used a paid informant to convince Banton to buy the cocaine.
To prove the allegation, Markus will have to show that the government induced Banton. The star's trial is expected to begin in March.
